Types Of Marbles

Two Types Of Marble Countertops by David Thompson
Countertops made of marble are also elegant and durable. But most of us are only aware of natural marble. We all know that it is a very expensive material that’s why only a few can afford to build countertops made of marble. Nowadays, it is also possible to build marble countertops by using cultured marble. Most would agree that they are very elegant, but it’s also true that they lack the authentic qualities of natural marble.
Natural marble is a metamorphic rock which is actually compacted limestone. It is known for its interesting vein patterns and beautiful colors. Natural marble is available in both light and dark colors. The light colors are white, orange, pink, yellow and beige. Dark colors include brown, gray, black, red and burgundy. Although it is hard, it is also somewhat porous. So if you don’t want your marble countertop to be stained by water, it’s very important to get it properly sealed.
But if you’re using cultured marble, then there’s no need to seal it because it is highly non-porous. This makes food preparation very safe because there isn’t anywhere for germs and bacteria to lodge on the surface. This type of marble is actually a man-made product using crushed natural marble combined with resins, polyester, calcium carbonate, color pigments and other materials. These materials are mixed together and poured into molds where they are formed and shaped. This process results in marble countertops that are highly impervious to water and dirt since their surface structures are of uniform consistencies. With this kind of structure, sealing the surface is no longer required. Another advantage of using cultured marble is that it is cheaper than natural marble. One drawback is that they have a synthetic feel and not marble-like.
Natural marble countertops more attractive because of its natural color combinations and vein patterns. If you give them a highly polished finish, these colors and vein patterns will be emphasized even more. But you really have to take good care of your natural marble countertops if you want to use them longer. Periodically sealing and laminating their surface will ensure that stains and dirt will be prevented from ruining the stone. When cleaning its surface, use mild soap and soft cloth. Avoid using soap cleansers containing acids and harsh chemicals.
Follow these instructions and your countertop should stay in great looking condition for many years to come.

Standing on Marbles $42.98 In this volume, renowned psychologist, executive coach, and poet Dr. Karol Wasylyshyn explores through verse what she has written about frequently in professional journals: three leadership types she calls the Remarkable, Perilous, and Toxic. Working from the experience of over 300 coaching engagements with some of America’s foremost business leaders, she takes readers of Standing on Marbles to places few others have gone: into the very psyche of our highest achieving business leaders. In the spare lines of these vignettes, drawn from engagements where Wasylyshyn collected a life history, conducted psychological testing, and obtained organizational performance data, we are reminded that those with big responsibilities have obvious talents, but often also torments that can bedevil-or serve-others. Standing on Marbles provides an opportunity for readers to fine tune their own understanding of what leadership means, in terms of both the inner life and its outer effects. Whether you are a leader now, an aspiring leader, or even if you have no desire to ever lead anyone, there is likely something here for you-if only because you have had and likely will have bosses. This volume is illustrated with the stunning digital imagery of Richard McKnight. |

Marbles $12.98 A Platonic dialogue in the form of a double anachronism–the action takes place two centuries after our era–Joseph Brodsky’s only play, "Marbles," is set in a prison cell that alone provides for the three unities of classic drama: those of time, place, and action. A nightmare rather than a utopia, this play proceeds according to the immanent logic of mental aggravation as its two characters, the inmates Publius and Tullius, examine the tautology of their psychological, historical, and purely physical confines. The fusion of its dour, somewhat terrifying vision with the macabre hilarity of its verbal texture allows Marbles to take its audience beyond the farthest reaches of the theatre of the absurd, into territory more suitable for modernist imagination than for human experience. |
